Ask questions, make observations, and gather information about a situation people want to change to define a simple problem that can be solved through the development of a new or improved object or tool.

Develop a simple sketch, drawing, or physical model to illustrate how the shape of an object helps it function as needed to solve a given problem.

Analyze data from tests of two objects designed to solve the same problem to compare the strengths and weaknesses of how each performs.

Use and share observations of local weather conditions to describe patterns over time.

Use tools and materials to design and build a structure that will reduce the warming effect of sunlight on an area.

With guidance and support, students will use varied teacher-selected resources to learn procedures to locate evidence that assists with finding answers to their questions. Introduce the importance of informational resources that are reliable and distinguish fact from opinion.

Variables: Model the way programs store and manipulate data by using numbers or other symbols to represent information

Algorithms and programming

Algorithms: Model daily processes by creating and following algorithms (sets of step by step instructions) to complete tasks.

Control: Develop programs and sequences and simple loops, to express ideas or address a problem

Modularity: Decompose (break down) the steps needed to solve a problem into a precise sequence of instructions

Develop plans that describe a program's sequence of events, goals, and expected outcomes.

Give attribution when using the ideas and creations of others while developing programs

Debug (identify and fix) errors in an algorithm or program that includes sequences and simple loops

Using correct terminology, describe steps taken and choices made during the iterative process of program development

Computing Systems

Devices: Select and operate appropriate software to perform a variety of tasks and recognie that users have different needs and preferences for the technology they use

Hardware and Software: Use appropriate terminology in identifying and describing the function of common physical components of computing systems (hardware)

Troubleshooting: Describe basic hardware and software problems using accurate terminology

Data and Analysis

Storage: Store, copy, search, retrieve, modify and delete information using a computing device and define the information stored as data

Collection, Visualization and Transformation: Collect and present the same data in various visual formats

Inference and Models: Identify and describe patterns in data visualizations, such as charts or graphs, to make predictions

Emerging and Future Technologies

Explain that the fields of emerging technologies will be evolving and rapidly growing

Comparing existing and emerging technologies, ideas, and concepts

Describe how emerging technologies are influencing current events a a local and global scale

Predict the positive and negative societal, cultural, and economic impacts that emerging and future technologies may generate
